I'm sure we've all read the PLEASE READ! posting at the top of our screen by now; if you haven't, please do so now.
On the subject of private messages. I'm a bit upset private messages dated before 2002 were deleted ("archived" if you will) immediatly from the server, i would've liked to have had a few days notice by our webmaster, as there were some messages i would've liked to have saved myself had I known they would be lost. However, since TW is a thriving community, obviouslly our collection of PMs will build up again. I propose Mr. Torrie sets in place a 30 day expiration period on all privite messages. Deleting them, (archiving them),after 30 days of their read date. So that people know when they will disappear, as well as keeping the number of messages to be stored on the server to a minimum. As for threads, I think a similar policy should be put in place. Giving threads a one time to live count from the last post.
With each day the pile will grow higher, and I think regular "cleanings" should be made standard in the future for the well-being of the community board.
**One more thought came me, although a bit more "far fetched".
Even though old threads disappear, there will no doubt be a desire among the populous to reference those old threads. So perhaps, we should have a few select TW Librarians who have access to the archives, and can cite old posts, and research the archived threads when it is needed. The manor in which they recieve this compolation of data can be discussed. I'm sure it is far too much to simply download off a server, perhaps if the webmaster were so willing, he could record the information on CDs and mail them to the scribes. Naturally, some names come to mind first as having reputations as referancers in the past, Wild Wind and Adam being two logical mentions. Of course, the reality of this happening would depend on popular interest for such a reference among the community, and the willingness of those to act as the record keepers.
Anyway, i've gone off on a tanget. Any other thoughts, comments, humorous pictures?
Oh dear, it looks as if I've turned evil again
