At one time, the "alter ego," an alternate character created by a regular user, was used tastefully. However, now that this idea has caught on, the use of the alter ego has gotten out of hand. What do I mean by this?
Now we have several posters posting as themselves, and also as four or five other alter egos at the same time. There is no way for the TW members to correct these members through flames, criticism or scourgings because we are not ever sure who they are.
In an extreme example, I believe we have at least one member who posts as at least 15 other people.
Consequently, we have forums flooded with dozens of alter egos: regular members hiding behind fake characters to purge their inner autism.
This creates a sloppy and silly message board. How to solve this problem? Alter egos can be identified and "outed" by the mods. Thus, the regular members can at least criticize those who abuse the alter ego concept.
Unfortunately, those who have tastefully and brilliantly used alter egos to create parody and satire will suffer. I am sorry. But it is possible that you would finally like to receive credit for the creative use of alternate characters?
