I'd like to begin this post by quoting White Prism. (I just lost 50% of my readers right there, didn't I? )
In reply to:
The Mods these days have admitted themselves that they're lazy and bureaucratic and won't do shit to improve the boards [...] While it is tempting to attack the posters whose quality of posts are sub-par, it is in fact far better to harangue the *moderators* who permit their brand of vacuous chit-chat to continue
Isn't White Prism, directly or indirectly, implying that there needs to be a re-election of moderators here on TW? A democratic election this time, since the first election was anything but democratic.
Sure, Evan pays for this site, but he never posts. Hasn't made a post in like five years, and probably won't ever post here again. He's the owner of this site only in theory. So, who, then, "owns" the TW Conversation Piece in practice? Its members, surely. The people who still come here. By all logic, they should be the ones that get to decicde who will moderate this place for them. The election of moderators should be a democratic process. In other words: let's vote.
Many TWers have already criticized the current moderators for a variety of reasons. I'm not saying I personally think Adam, ohramona, Tati, EJ and Sysiyo have been bad, but they've all been criticized by the people, and, frankly, I see no other option than to bring democracy to TW. If Evan was still visiting and taking part in this MB, the situation would be different. But since the owner is gone, we're all equals here, I'm sad to say. Of course, since Adam was given his role by Evan himself, he should remain some kind of boss, but I think that, in the name of democracy, the moderators should be elected through democratic elections. Yes, I over-use the word democracy in this post, but, on the other hand, can a word like democracy ever be over-used? Is it not the word of the day, these days?
Anyway, I think there are many good potential moderators out there, but that's not the main point. The main point is that, if we elect our own moderators, we can't really complain about them, because they were elected by us. So, naturally, there should be re-accuring elections. Perhaps a new election every year. Also, I'm sure most, if not all, of the current moderators are loved and appreciated by many members of this board, so there's a big chance they will be re-elected.
Here's a list of people I could see myself voting for:
* Pablo Picasso * ziggfried * Monkeyboy * Beltene * Marquis * Rabbitfighter * Dogz
Yes, I am serious. I think we are to gain by putting more "rebellious", wicked elements, or perhaps I should say individuals, in power. I think Adam's thinking, when electing his original moderators all those years ago, was a little...conservative and naive. Not stupid, not wrong. But he went with some "obvious" choices. He was playing it safe. Or, he thought he was. But what does the typical mass murderer look like? The answer is he doesn't look like the typical mass murderer. In theory, the list of moderators Adam had in mind was too good. It was too good to be true. These people were too good to be true. Now, in theory, Marquis strikes us all as a terrible choice for moderator. But in practice? I'd say not so terrible. At least that's my guess/hope/fear.
So, now, tell me this has been discussed before. I mean, I sincerely hope it has.
GFried: What aspect of your personallity do you think makes you post at a David Bowie message board? Dara: For me it's pretty much an interest in David Bowie.
