After reading EJ's "Why's TW So Dull Right Now" thread, and considering the never-ending bitching we generally have here about what's being posted, I thought that this thread would be useful. Everyone complains about how TW's full of crap at one time or another, but the crux of the matter seems to be, we all have different tastes, and one person's crap is another person's wittiest thread of the year. When people ask for stricter regulations of certain kinds of posts, I think they don't consider that their opinion of what's good and what's bad is not shared by everybody.
So then, let's have a little roll call. For mutual education's sake, please tell us what it is that you come to TW for--what you consider a good read/discussion. And this time, let's everybody be really honest please. As in, tell us what you really read and post to, as opposed to what you want us to think you do. So if you generally find yourself clicking on every one of Beltene's threads, and secretly look forward to the next time Claude makes a post that you can harass him for, don't tell me you come here for the deep, methodically involved discussions on the merits of backing vocals during Bowie's 80s period.
I'll start it off.
Stuff that keeps me coming back:
I come here for the irreverent Coffee Shop discussions, and the bitching in the Site Feedback forums. I also like that TW supplies me with news, and the opportunity to discuss the latest headlines with people who are not painfully stupid (well, some of them).
Really offbeat threads. Those are fun. Also, character-driven threads.
I like the feuds. Drawn-out arguments with everybody taking sides and fighting dirty as they can are always great. I'm not sure if the feuds are better if they're on an intellectually engaging subject, or on overwhelmingly petty stuff.
Also, the satire and the alter-egoes. Dammit, I love me some of those later egoes. Alter egoes are what makes TW so special and so different. When they're done well, they're the highlight of the whole board.
Finally, Claude's posts. When they overrun a thread, it gets to be too much, but I'm much amused by his one-liners in context of a full discussion. I mean, come on! He's really something!
Stuff I really couldn't care less about:
Lists. Of any kind.
Most "vs" threads, especially if they're Bowie related. Ie, "Bowie Albim A vs. Bowie Album B." Or "Bowie Track A vs. Bowie Track B." It's as dull as lists.
The "Fight" threads. It's basically the same thing as the lists and the vs. threads.
