You just wrote out a very nice, entertaining, thoughtful , introspective post, but one that totally doesn't actually answer the initial question posed by this thread
Now you know how poor Pablo feels when one of his Bowie threads gets invaded by the Italian Stallions.
Alright, well I'll try to be a bit more detailed, but I feel that making a list of my favorite posters would probably be quicker and more effective than detailing why it is I like what they post. Then again, didn't I just say something about opinion-stating? I think I did. So:
The Goods
-"serious issue" threads: wars, natural disasters, terrorist attacks, etc. It's informative to find out what illiterates in all countries think about these imporant issues, and once in awhile, someone with something interesting/new/important to say will say it. Also, these devolve into nationalist name-calling sooner or later, which is usually fun
-Threads about music. I'm not entirely sure why, as my tastes have sort of diverged from the TW mainline in recent years, the upshot of which is that I make a lot of posts about hip-hop that no one will listen to and read a lot more posts about rock bands I will never listen to. Still, writing about things that interest you is fun, and once in awhile I'll follow through on someone's recommendation and find a nice surprise.
-"Personality" threads. I'm not sure if that's the best name for them, but it's all I can think of. Anyway, the masters of this genre are mostly either retired (tomwood, p2c) or posting less (eraserhead), so it's not a mainstay of my TW diet anymore, but overall, these have always been my favorite threads: a poster tells a story, states an opinion, has a thought, etc., which is really about themselves, but which invites all of us to a) enjoy the story/thought/idea and b) give feedback/conclusions/etc. and to spin the thread into new directions of conversation.
If I'm having trouble getting across my meaning, I suppose it's because these threads aren't easy to spot like list threads or fight threads. It's not just about talking about yourself; there's a definite difference between a classic like p2c's "I am a racist!" and Beltene posting about being horny for the 15th time in three days.
-I like list threads at times, but only twister list threads
The Bads
-Anything Bowie related
-Threads about funny things people found on the internet
-"Livejournal" style posts which are sort of like my favorite kind of post, but aren't meant to actually spur on conversation/reaction. See: Beltene
