Diamond Dogs is the perfect example of flawed brilliance. An excellent album - my first Bowie album, actually. It blew me AWAY. While I like, say, Aladdin Sane or Ziggy... more than DD, one has to admit that it's amazing nevertheless. The flawed part comes from the fact that the two songs stuck right in the middle have little to nothing to do with the overall story, and the fact that the first half and the second half of the album sound like they could be on two completely different LPs. But what I like is, despite all of this, it STILL works as a story. Though We Are the Dead and up are based almost directly on 1984 (almost?), they still work with the first half of the album - it STILL tells a story. Of course, this seems to be an accident, or something like that... :\ Still, one of my favorite albums ever. I've written two concept albums directly influenced by it. *thumbs up*
