En réponse à:

but im afraid you havent changed one iota of my confidence in this interpretation, some of the points that you raise i have already explained.

That's fine, it wasn't my aim. I don't try to convince anyone, I just try to give other ideas.

En réponse à:

if you were from Britain or America (and had that understanding of usage of terms in the English Language), you would know only too well what "Street Smart" means, and how "Stupid in the street" is the opposite of this. You would know that "street smart" could easily refer to the image of drugs (cool), and therefore "Stupid in the street" means uncool.

Indeed I didn't know, and I thank you for pointing it out because I will go to bed less stupid tonight . And both of our interpretation still work: I didn't point it out before simply because I wasn't sure, but now I'm more convinced: he could have "given her a dangerous mind" by introducing her to drugs, simply, couldn't he? And so now she's in the same situation than him: she's suffering from cocaine dependance and becomes "stupid in the streets" for the reasons you gave.

En réponse à:

I think you are expecting me to explain the lyrics as if i was Bowie, precisely interpreting specific phrases in a certain way (an example is your nitpicking over the interchange between the words and or but in the line "i looked in her eyes they were blue but nobody home", and your rather odd statement that Bowie would have chosen to express this a different way, which doesnt affect my interp at all).

You're wrong. I only pointed out that a part of your interpretation didn't fit with the text: he says "they were blue BUT nobody home", and not "and", so it doesn't fit well with the "blue = cold" explanation, for reasons I gave before. Expect if you prove me the contrary the contrary, or anyone else. I don't understand your reaction here, because as you said, it isn't even a problem for your interpretation at all: if "she" is cocaine, Bowie says she has "blue eyes" to show that "she" was very attractive to him.

En réponse à:

And you think because it isnt laid out in block letters plain as day and obvious that its not valid.

Yes, I think. I know that Bowie's text are somewhat complicated to interpret because he has a very special to express himself, but I don't see why he would, here, sometimes use "she" for cocaine, and sometimes for himself.
That doesn't make any sense to ME. But I don't mean that you're necessarily wrong to think it is this way, you might be perfectly right. BUT as far as I'm concerned, for the moment, I don't believe Bowie has used a so wicked way to express himself. You can't blame me for that: I don't believe this idea, which doesn't mean I reject it.

En réponse à:

(but for arguments sake, id like to add that maybe Bowie helped him?

And I could answer you that we can build a city with "maybe" . Maybe yes, but certainly not: the texts of Low prove that Bowie was much less inspired than Iggy at this time, even if he didn't want too write in the same way than before, he admitted himself that his "poetic muse" had left it during this period. So I strongly doubt he could have helped Iggy, who is anyways an enough songwriter himself .

En réponse à:

having said that the "little girl" is still a metaphor (at least partially) for heroin

In Iggy's world! maybe Bowie took the "little girl" idea from Iggy, but that doesn't prove at all that he did with its sense as well. Alabama Song isn't a drugs song and he used it. And I don't think the little girl of What in the world could be cocaine either, but maybe you'd like to open a thread about this song later .

By the way, I'm pretty certain that Bowie's eyes are not blue and grey, but blue and green...

En réponse à:

Again some woman he knows "couldve been a killer if she didnt walk the way she do" -

it would be odd dont you think?

Not at all. I think I explained myself enough clearly in my 1st message anyways. I don't find it more odd than saying that sometimes "she" is for cocaine, and sometimes "she" is for himself.

En réponse à:

"Little girl" mentioned on Low in "what in the world" also her grey eyes mentioned (blue eyes here) "so deep in your room" - room.

Uh yes, I even remember I pointed out this fact in my 1st message as well. And so I'm curious to know why the girl in WITW couldn't be a human being, even imaginated by Bowie, who knows?

En réponse à:

"Strange doors" lead to rooms, rooms are menbtioned in virtually every song in Low (1st half) in S2S and here several times.

Sorry, but so what? I don't see how it proves that the girl is not a human being, I'm lost

En réponse à:

"Scary monsters, super creeps
Keep me running, running scared"

How is this related to her if she is a real person? Is he calling her a "super creep"?

lol no. I have no doubt that this part of the song concerns his former characters and drugs anyways. A song can deal with several subjects!

En réponse à:

Jimmy, the drug addict guitarist, who recorded his pain and feelings in the screams of his guitar.

That's an interpretation like another indeed. Here you won because I never managed to know who "Jimmy" was, I rather thought of Iggy Pop's real name, but I don't know if he plays guitar.

The advantage of being clever is that you can play the fool, while the contrary is impossible (Woody Allen)
