I actually think that the Alabama Song is a very fine moment in Bowie's catalogue - though I must admit that it doesn't work half as good as a single than it did in the live versions. But as I will never forget how Bowie blew me away with this song when I watched the Musikladen Extra on TV in 1978 I just have to give a little more respect to this nicely unusual piece of Bowie music.
