Internet Chart Update: Earthling fell one spot to Number 6. Little Wonder fell 6 spots to Number 8. BUT, Good news: Dead Man Walking entered the charts with a bang at Number 62. SO, let's keep that voting up. Let's get Earthling up to #1, keep Little Wonder in the top ten, and get Dead Man Walking to #1. Those of you who have stopped voting, GET BACK TO IT!

Hi Dara. I've got it, and it's not that different. It's just Bowie's voice louder. It is a very good version, just not too different from the original

Oh Mr. Osterberg is definitely on my shit list too. I think the only US date he's left with is Las Vegas, and it's too far for me to go just to see Iggy shake his biggie. But what pisses me off the most is that he cancelled the date from my home town (which beat out LA for the SoCal crowd!), which would have definitely benefitted from a night with the Igster. BTW mlle foo, where'd you get a pic of Dave holding something as wholesome as milk?

With springtime upon us here in America...we should think of Bowie risen from the ashes of the early and mid-eighties to flourish for us again. After all, messianic vision comes in many forms- Bowie was at least an apostle. My wife is here somewhere...I'll be saying that for years to come. Love isn't strange...just so familiar it can seem that way. Thanks for this very practical bit of space- evan.

Josie, it's hard to say when Basquiat will be reduced in price for purchase. Sometimes it can take over a year for the price to drop. You might want to check out video rental stores that sell their overstock of once-new releases (although I doubt Blockbuster will carry as many copies of Basquiat as they do of The Rock). And if a certain someone eventually decides to purchase the laserdisc, you can always hit them up for a copy.

Dara, do you have anymore copies of the Telling Lies CD single? A friend of mine desperately wants one. And does anyone know when Basquiat is going to be released on video in video stores? BOWIE TO PLAY HIMSELF IN DIAMOND NEBULA FILM!!! I've recieved some inside information that David will be appearing in the film version of Jeremy Reed's DIAMOND NEBULA!!!! He has been approached about playing himself in the movie version about a kind of surreal apocalyptic world where the last survivors worship three famous persoanlities, Bowie being the greatest. Production hasn't started yet, but I think this would be a very strange movie indeed with David playing himself in a part fiction film.

Ramona, Kevin Bacon is an actor who has been in every movie ever made since the dawn of time. Or at least he's prolific enough that he can be linked to every actor ever seen in any movie, whether you like it or not. As soon as Bowie is in a zillion more movies like our friend Kevin, we can have a "Six Steps to David Bowie" game. Wouldn't that be a hoot.

The other nite I was thinking of interesting connection betweent David Bowie, Niel Young and Kurt Cobain. David says that the inspiration for Dead Man Walking was Niel Young & Crazy Horse from the Bridge Benefit show. In the song David sings " And I'm Gone, Like I'm Dancing On Angles." Neil Young & Crazy Horse put out an album about Kurt Cobain called "Sleeps with Angels" I was wondering if there was any possible connection?

The thing about the Bacon game is you're supposed to link kevin to your favorite star in as *few* steps as possible. In fact, David Bowie can be linked many ways to kevin bacon, but my way is the shortest route. Now, can anyone link iggy pop to kevin?

Thank you, Petra, what a lovely comment, you made my day. Welcome to the Guestbook. And okay, Bob, you nagged me into it, so I went and voted for LW, DMW, Outside, Earthling, The Buddha Of Suburbia, The Singles Collection AND Basquiat, not to mention all other Bowie related movies I could think of - Se7en, Lost Highway. I drew the line at voting for Showgirls though.

Well, Little Wonder was finally knocked off the top of the Internet charts, so now is the time to turn our attention to Dead Man Walking. To get your vote in for this week, go to http://www.worldcharts.com/
You'll have to vote for DMW as a write-in: it's not listed yet.
And while you're there, there's no reason not to keep voting for LW in the singles chart, Earthling and Outside in the albums chart, and Basquiat in the movies chart.

Hi, all of you, here's another newbie to this site - not to the man though, I'm rather an oldie, in fact I am "with HIM" for 19 years now, the "key moment" being a live version of "Heroes" on TV in '78, which kind of changed my life forever (and I mean that !) I've been following your antics on this great page for about the last couple of weeks quite passively, but now that I set up my own devices I'm afraid you have to deal with me every now an then. HEY, IT'S GREAT TO BE IN YOUR COMPANY !!! (DARA, you're one of my favourite people over here; will e-mail you soon.)

Oh dear ... I´ve messed up - I think. I left a comment about two weeks ago, or did it not make it? I haven´t been able to visit this fantastic site for two weeks, but here I am! I asked two silly questions the last time I was here: 1. Was it Gitanes or Galloas that The Thin White Duke "smoked" (We all now he didn´t smoke them, it was those old Marlboros.) 2. Is it David that I see in the Marvin Gaye video »Mercy Mercy Me«? If it is why? Please e-mail me your answers so don´t miss them again. Thank you all for existing. David is the one - right?

Here's an even more convoluted Bowie~Bacon link. Bowie was in "The Man Who Fell To Earth" with Buck Henry, who was in "The Player" with Tim Robbins, who was in "Bull Durham" with Kevin Costner, who was in "JFK" with Bacon. I know there's a Bowie-Kyle MacLachlan-Elizabeth Shue-Nicolas Cage-Tommy Lee Jones-Bacon link, but I can't think of the movie name with MacLachlan and Shue. It was from late '96 and involved some blackout. All I know is that I have too much time on my hands.

I was just flipping past VH1 and they had something on The Saint's soundtrack and they showed a clip of Dream Boat singing Blue Jean, so I am assuming this is the track that made it on. BOWIEMANIAC: did you catch Dateline last night? They had a segment on the Bacon six-step game. Very interesting. That must be the rage lately because right after the Saint thing on VH1, the VJ linked Lawrence Olivier to Corey Feldman... that was impressive... something like Olivier->Morgan Freeman->Keanu Reeves->River Phoenix->Feldman. Crazy. So, can anyone link Kevin Bacon to David without using Basquait? I'm not very versed in Bowie films, so I can't. Have fun, drink chocolate syrup.

Somewhere in Philly there's a place with Bowie on the jukebox and warm sapphire gin. As we hear Five Years and Candidate we remember that David was a prophet of the age, and continues as one today. With new financial deals based on new revenue from yet unsold work, he is a pioneer of music as a business-a medium of art- and as a force to change and benefit civilisation. Let's see if the little lady notices this odd bit of post from such a familiar style. (I love you.)

OK, Ramsey , but remember: you asked for it. I started this on the MB yesterday, and it's a little variation on the *My Three Songs* game. Now the way it works is something like this: the first player names three songs by Our Most High Dave (or songs that are somehow closely connected to him) and anyone who wants to can try to name the common element between them. This can be thematic or whatever, running from the *it's so blatantly obvious that you deserve to be beaten about the head if you can't figure it out* variety (e.g. what do Boys Keep Swinging, Dancing With The Big Boys, and London Boys have in common?) to those which aren't quite as obvious (e.g. What do Sister Midnight, Bleed Like A Craze Dad, and Red Money have in common? [suspiciously similar bass line]). If you can figure it out and answer it (remember, there can be more than one right answer), then it becomes your solemn duty to come up with another 3 songs, and this'll go on and on until our limited attention spans tire of it or Evan threatens to stop it, whichever comes first. A lot of cool ones have already been thrown out on the other board (Dara has come up with some nasty ones), so to get the ball rolling over here you can try this one on for size: What do Time, Let Me Sleep Beside You, and Fall In Love With Me have in common?

I don't know what happened there. I was going to say that Low IS, spite of the title, an all time high. It's Bowie's finest hour - and he's had a lot of them.

I definitely think Low is the all time best... "Heroes" is good, but the songs are "just" good, and I don't connect to the instrumentals very well. Lodger is totally different, with no instrumentals, but just good songs.

Hey, don't be dissin' 80s music. New Wave is about 492% better than the grunge crap out now. Dammit. And even Ziggy Stardust was considered the height of New Wave in the 80s (not sure why the "modern rock" radio station at the time was calling ziggy modern rock when it was already 14 years old. And just think...all the really good bands out there even now quote Bowie as being their main influence. Whee. ---Mademoiselle "I've got angst in my pants" Foo

Florian: Low is my all-time favourite Bowie album, and Lodger is high on my list too, but I wouldn't put Heroes in my top 10. There's good stuff on it, but IMO it sounds a bit patchy compared to the other two. It sounds like Bowie and Eno tried to make Low II, only more uplifting, whereas I think they would have been better off trying something completely different. Low, for me, is by far the best album of all time, an album so good I find it hard to believe it was created by mere humans. I don't think anyone will ever touch that level of genius again: 1977 was Bowie's annus mirabilus, with the two Iggy albums showing he couldn't go wrong. On Lodger, they diverged from the Low blueprint and created something truly different, which for me is the main reason it works much better than Heroes.

Vikki, as the concert in Essen will be a festival, it won't be sold out and you'll be able to buy a ticket at the doors. Even if it sold out, there`ll be always people who bought too many tickets and will sell them in front of the stadium. Me, I live in Essen, but even I won't buy a ticket, cause the chance to get it cheaper at the doors is really big. Keep swinging Gilly

Hey FlorianS (did I spell that right?), I'd have to agree with you. I was only a moderate Bowie fan until I heard "Low" and "Heroes" back to back for the first time when they first came out on cd. From that point on, I became as rabid as Old Yeller, buying up disc after disc. I can't imagine having his level of creativity in 1977, working on his own records as well as Iggy Pop's stuff. What a sustained period of brilliance. By the way, were the Junior Vasquez remixes of "Little Wonder" crap or what? Certainly not up to either Bowie's or Vasquez's standards. Hopefully, the Moby mixes of "Dead Man Walking" will rise up and kick booty. Where oh where is Jack Dangers when you need remixes?

I'm having trouble posting to the discussion forum so I will just post this here for now:

I need to know how I can obtain tickets for the June 13 concert in Essen, Germany. It just so happens that I am going to be in that area at that time and I would really really love to go see him there. Can anyone help me out?

In other news, the other day I decided to do something I've been wanting to do for about a year and a half: I got the 'db' symbol (the one on the background of these pages) tatooed on my hip. I love it. Now David is indelibly inscribed on my body.

Yeah so, thanks for any help you can give me re: Germany tickets.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAVID BOWIE! SORRY I missed the birthday card; do not own a computer. The EARTHLING album is GREAT!! I especially like "Seven Years..." and "...Afraid of Americans" but all the songs are really really good. You really shone like the star you are on the Video Music Awards; I am truly able to appreciate the term "Star" as applied to a performer; you are just brilliant (radiate energy). No one can touch you (surpass your own stage presence);you're a stand-out. Apart from the rest. The music is really good, Congratulations. Anxiously awaiting your next concert appearance in Phila. 'Lodger' is also one of my favourite albums, but I would say that in comparison to 'Heroes' and 'Low', it is much too disjointed and quirky. The gems on the album are 'Red Sails', 'DJ', and 'Look Back in Anger', which play a lot more smoothly than some of the other tracks. Except for those three songs and perhaps 'Boys Keep Swinging', the album in my opinion just isn't as good as the other two above-mentioned albums. The songs on 'Heroes' and 'Low' are amazing. Even the quieter tracks -- e.g., 'Neukoln', 'Subterraneans', 'Sense of Doubt' -- are excellent. To this day I am still affected by 'Moss Garden' when I hear it; it is a beautiful song. I suppose as a Bowie fan I am in a minority in my preference for his Berlin albums, but nevertheless they are my favourites. Anyone else love 'Heroes' and 'Low'??

I would say that other than Diamond Dogs, Lodger is my absolute favorite. I can listen to these two albums exclusively during the day and not get tired of them. My cow-orkers, on the other hand, tend to leave the office by the time either album is played a second time. Sheesh, you'd think they're sick of hearing Bowie, or something! Oh well, what can you expect from a bunch of philistine old men who think the epitomy of music is what they hear in the National Geographic Specials?

Here's a snippet from VIVA (German VH-1), translated from the German.
"Are they the new dream couple of the movie world? Sinead O'Connor and David Bowie are appearing together before the cameras in New York, in a film directed by cult director Michael Almereyda. An insider says: "The film is about Egyptian mummies. We can't say any more".
Sinead, like David, has previous acting experience. The Irish singer is currently appearing in the film "The Butcher Boy". David Bowie acting in, amongst others the film "Cat People"".
It's probably worth pointing out that VIVA are not exactly renowned for their journalistic credentials (in other words, many's the cock and bull story they carry). But you probably guessed that from their statement there at the end that Bowie acted in "Cat People".
And hi to you, Hel!! Nice to see you here again.

Dara and Rachel - nice to see people out there acknowledging Lodger. It must be one of his most underappreciated albums - it was certainly hammered by the press at the time of its release. But who are they? They just couldn't keep up with him. I think it's one of his most adventerous albums, loaded with great tracks, riffs and - of course - David's own brilliant voice. It's also one of his more ironic albums.

That's an interesting comment about Lodger and Earthling, Rachel, and I think you're right. I've heard that Bowie rates Lodger very highly (but Eno doesn't). Apparently, it's one of his faves. He also has done quite a few of the songs from it live. On the last tour, he did three from it, and he also did Repetition for ChangesNowBowie. Mattie: Looks like my prediction of an upsurge in Bowie's popularity in a certain South American country is coming true!

I got the feeling that Bowie wasn't talking about the follow-up to Outside. His latest utterances on that were that it would be himself and Eno only, sending each other tapes. In the interview, Bruce transcribed he said "we get back to it next week and we start doing a bit more recording because I've got some ideas for some new songs", meaning (I presume) him and the band (he goes on to say "we will get ready for the tour", so I don't think 'we' has anything to do with Eno in this case).

Well, Bowie stated before the release of "Earthling" that he was planning on releasing three albums in six months time. I think we can assume that the "Heroes"-symphony is one of them (an album I absolutely recommend, by the way), and I wouldn't be surprised if he'd already started to plan his next release - which should be the follow-up to "Outside". And JeanMarie: Great artwork!!

I don't think that Get Off Of My Cloud has the remotest connection to Dave. It's true that Pete did have a Union Jack jacket at the time, but if you listen to the words (yeah, I actually do know what he's saying), the song's really bitching about some authority figure who's trying to give away prize money if you have his soap powder in your house. Nope, way too tenuous to be a connection to our dear Davey.

Becky, interesting note about the Stones song. I'm probably off with my timeline here, but didn't Pete Townsend have a jacket w/the Union Jack? Just a thought. And Dara, hmm, your comments made me laugh. I remember an interview Bowie did for Musician magazine w/Eno and Phillip Glass, and I recall just about gagging when Bowie made some comment to god while looking up and jokingly looking down and saying something like "the check is on its way." It couldn't have been any creepier than the 1980's incarnation of Bowie, though.

Yes, I remember that interview. I remember at the time being a little dismayed by the total normality of Bowie's image at the time. He seemed so clean and sober, his wedding was in Hello, and he was telling everyone he believed in God. Since he got back with Eno (a vociferous atheist), he seems to have toned down his "unshakeable belief in God" to a belief in a life force.

Left is good. That's my opinion. Anyway, it's good he's not Fasctistic (I hope I spelled it right) anymore. And WHERE is Pheonix? It can be a nice highlight for my holiday... seeing david doing Earthling.

Hi all. Noam: I think Bowie's political views (which he keeps pretty well to himself) could be classified as pretty left wing. In his book, Christopher Sandford noted that the richer David became, the more left wing he became (most people move to the right as they get richer). "For every pound he made, he moved the width of a pound to the left". Religiously, his views seem a little muddled. He has described himself as a lapsed Buddhist. Most recently, he has said he believes in an energy form or life force, but doesn't subscribe to institutionalized religion. Phoenix Festival is an annual festival in England, which Bowie also headined last year.

JEANMARIE: The programme you were thinking of was a British short TV series called 'FULL STRETCH' about a limosine company in which Bowie played himself. He falls asleep in the back of the limo so the driver decides to get something to eat. While he is gone the limo is towed away with David still asleep inside!! When the company finally track down the car in a towyard, they find David STILL asleep inside! BOWIEMANIAC: There is a reason for why the letters on the Earthling album are spread apart. Bowie has made mention of it but unfortunatly I can't remember the exact quote so bare with me as I try to tell you what he meant. It's to make one view the word in a different way because it is such a common word. By spreading the letters out one becomes more aware of the actual word and will probably think about it more. I think that's what he meant :)

Recently a friend of mine made a rude comment to me about Bowie. Was it right to push him against the bleachers for it??? I mean we can't have rumors being spread. Alys, so far no news on our story. I hope it gets up soon. What happened yesterday? I have no idea what happened but if you look you will notice one of the chats are missing from the list. I recently found an article about Bowie in USA Today. It was very interesting indeed. It's 12:05 PM here and no one is in the mIRC chat but me. :( Evan I am having a little trouble with the other half of my story so I will get it to you as soon as I can get it to you in one e-mail. So far it looks like it will take 2 e-mails to get the whole thing to you. I have been waiting a long time for someone to come on the chat and no one is there yet. :( I read the Fan Fiction story on www.davidbowie.com and it is very very weird. But I did like the part where they cover him in margerine and then lick it all off. That was cool. Me and Alys put a part up on the messae board but nothing has happened yet. A couple months ago the guest book also was the site of a large clique that would very unwillingly acknowledge new comers. I know. When I started posting (Bowie related items) some of the few people who would acknowledge me were Ilsa, Ramsey and Alys. Many of the others would only leave messages for each other (something some are being critized for at the moment). The gb presently is being misused, but then again how can one create guidelines for something this unstructured. If others would begin to enter their Bowie/music comments again perhaps we will overcome the animosity. Peace my Bowie fiends.

As for those who have criticised Feef for complaining about the deterioration of the guestbook lately, there are several things that they should know.
Firstly, what she said about the guestbook having had far more constructive and informative material on it in the past is true- anyone that doubts this should scroll back (FAR back) and check it out for themselves.
Secondly, since Ilsa's name was quoted as someone who liked to see the ramblings and nonsense produced by some of the younger contributors here, I can assure everyone that Ilsa does not like having to wade through all that rubbish, and has somewhat lost interest in the guestbook because of it; the same can be said of the others in Feef's list, including myself. Incidentally, two of these people know Bowie personally, but they have largely stopped contributing here now because of all the crap that's been posted here of late.
Thirdly, Josie has been posting on the guestbook almost since its inception, over 18 months ago- those who have joined in the last few months or weeks should bear that in mind before criticising her for voicing her valid opinion.

Apparances-newsflash (not confirmed): David Bowie is wanted for this year's Kalvøya festival outside Oslo. As this seems to fit with his schedule, and as it's a very well-renowned festival (Nick Cave is coming), the arrangers are optimistic about getting him. Still, it's a shame Bowie's only playing festivals. In the words of a singer."Yes, yes, yes, it's the Summer festival - the truly detestable Summer festival..."

Enthusiasm for discovering the big "B" is pretty strong, and it reminds me of when I first got into his music. So I guess I find some of the "drivel" endearing in a way. Of course, now Operation Eart hl i ng is in full swing because of a friend who has just discovered how utterly cool and "sm00th" mr bowie really is. This means she's going to be a sort of bowie dead head and follow him to at least a dozen shows on his tour and worship the ground he walks on. You know, that sort of thing. I suppose if she gets around to the guest book, things will really go in(s)ane :) Luckily for all of you guys she has a job that takes up all her internet time, and she can't do netscrape at home...so I guess the in(s)anity factor won't be quite as high...

All right. I'm so tired of plugging this interview that I'm going to bait you with a quote. "When you meet him you know you've run smack into Right Now. A man who is a syncretic sponge, and all the spiritual ambitions that define This Time are in him. I follow East 60th Street as it descends off the shoulder of Manhattan wnder the gargantuan black arm of the 59th Street Bridge, and step out of the night rain into a seemingly deserted five-story warehouse building. Standing quietly in front of the elevator is David Bowie. He smiles and extends his hand. In this flourescent light, his hair is dyed an off-orange pumpkin color, spiked up, and he's wearing a sort of fleur-de-lis print sport coat pinned over his shoulders and a patch over one eye that makes me look at the black shine on his cowboy boots. We pile into the elevator, where a makeup girl tends to him. The look is purposefully unidentifiable, a hybrid with no particular reference in space or time. 'Not exactly day clothes,' he says. After a beat, as though suddenly remembering that he IS David Bowie, he adds, 'But they could be.'"

Hallo all, I haven't seen anything posted about this at all, but Bowie did an interview with DJ David Dye, host of a program called the World Cafe, this past Friday. The show originates on a local public radio station here in Philly, but is in limited syndication as well. The Bowie interview was an hour long, although at least half the time was used to play songs. They mostly played (and discussed) stuff from Earthling, although this interview was taped two weeks ago, so I don't think the DJ had much of a chance to hear the album yet. They played some older songs, pretty standard stuff (i.e., Space Oddity, Young Americans-it is Philly after all). They also discussed Bowie's new style, current influences, etc. I've heard or read most of it before in other interviews, but he mentioned a few tidbits that I hadn't. I will try to work on a transcript. In the meantime, if anyone would like to trade for a copy of the Rockline Interview, I'd be game.

Bon, I agree with you. It's amazing just what the magic of editing can do for a clip as droll as Frank Black and Bowie singing Fashion. Also, the version of Repetition following I Can't Read was equally creepy. I was having flashbacks to Seasame Street when the announcer, at the beginning and end of the concert, said, "this concert is brought to you by Earthling". And that dress that Gail Ann wore looked like it came out of Betty Rubble's closet. Somewhere in between, the music wasn't half bad.

The Bowie PPV came together magnificently! If you havent ordered it yet, it's worth every penny of the $19.95 it costs! Highlights for me were Lou Reed, Foo fighters and the "all drum band" on Hallo Spaceboy. I'm Afraid of Americans with Sonic Youth was suspiciously shot as though for a video (I can only hope), and Frank Black's segment came out better than I thought it would. The added treat at the end is an accoustic dressing room concert of "I can't Read" from Tin Machine, Bowie wears a mask that shows a mutated version of himself in video on the side and then he sings harmony with the video mask...very weird and very fetching!

They had to, like, kick evryone off for about five minutes while they fixed evrything. You can still get in the Bowie room, just not thru Evan's Chat Page. I could hardly believe it when I laid my eyes upon the david bowie guestbook and the comments made by people just like me! I suppose I am backward for not checking the Internet earlier about David stuff, but I suppose I have been too immersed in thinking (wishing) that it is 1973, and David is my best friend...I have a psychic connection with him. No one else my age (16) understands. My peers listen to 1990s crap-I can't stand it. I need fellow David freaks to support me. Wow..I'm so overwhelmed. God, David is..he is my favorite thing, man. Okay, I don't mean to sound insane; I'm just really excited about the whole connection to potential Bowie friends. What euphoria! I also adore the Velvet Underground, good ol' Lou Reed and all of the Andy Warhol Factory brouhaha.

This was the first Bowie album I ever bought, and I'll defend it to the death!!!! And I'll defend the Glass Spider Tour, too!!! Does anybody know anything about Victor Manuoi? He was the lovely creepy androgynous dancer in black on the tour.... I've always loved him.... So Bowie's queer, so what. I agree with BowieManiac-- the Trysexual answer is best--but when asked why he's repeatedly settled down with girls, db is fond of saying that he is "compulsively heterosexual"--he can't help himself.... Nobody answered me about Raygun #44!! I really want to discuss this whole Raygun being the only Yank music rag with proper respect for Bowie thing!!! Sniff. Hallo, happy Friday to all! It is official, I'm gone as of sunday morning. Ground control gave me the readouts and mission information last night... I'm on to the eastern side of the galaxy, which should take me til the end of the month to reach... FOO, I agree about Joe The Lion, but another great song to play in a car stereo really loud is African Night Flight...Now that song really scares unsuspecting people... Alys, still send the tape to the address you have, even though I won't be there...My dad will make sure it gets to me... Damn, I wish I had access to a computer in Ontario... I've had so fun on this one hahaha... Made new friends, and met fellow Bowie fans, when just a few months ago, I thought I was the only one, and the odds of meeting others would be impossible... Well I was wrong... Some are you guys are even more into him than I am... And I never thought could be possible either! Goodbye So Long Au Revoir... Its been fun!

We all accept that the shadows on the "Earthling" CD cover don't exactly ring true, but here is another strange feature on the CD cover. This might be old news and obvious to everyone, but has anyone noticed the strange image in the clouds on the "Earthling" CD cover. The lyrics to the song "Looking For Satellites" say:-
"There's something in the sky;
Shining in the light."
Well, if you study the pictures below, you can see that there is in fact something in the sky. In the top right hand corner is an eye looking down at David. Do I just have an over-active imagination or is this in fact an eye looking down at David?

Look at the eye in the sky.

So what do you think?

Somebody asked a few days ago which Earthling song contains the riff from The Supermen. The answer is Dead Man Walking; the riff is used as the bass-line in the intro, and re-appears as a guitar riff later in the song.

What should I do??? I can get the birthday concert on PPV, BUT, I'll end up owing my parents $30!!!!

Christie, I was in a band, playing bass guitar,....but that ended, due to some disagreements about religion, namely mine.

I agree: Who cares if David is gay or not? He is an awesome musician and yes, very good looking. Homophobes always have to pour their hatred on someone. Why can't they just leave him alone? David kicks their butts!

You know, I've never understood why some people will insist that your taste in music is bad, or the artist/band you listen to is bad because the artist/band is gay. My standard response was "well who cares if bowie *is* gay or not? he's an excellent singer, good looking, and probably a really nice person..." All through highschool when I was getting into bowie, some genius would continually remind me of bowie's "gayness and he slept with mick jagger". You think these people are just jealous because A: Bowie is making a great living making some of the best music in the industry, B: They're jealous because bowie is getting laid on a regular basis, (whether with mick, angie, wallace and gromit, or the brady bunch..or whoever.) or C: they're just jealous of you for being so open about liking an artist that most homophobes are terrified of and possibly secretly attracted to.

I really love David. He is a gorgeous and beautiful person. Whoever thinks he's ugly has a major problem. I especially like his eyes. Is it true that one of his pupils permantly got dilated because of an accident with staring into a light?Well, whatever the case, he has amazing eyes. He is a very intellegent guy and one of the best singers ever. I had a dream the other night that I met him. It was wonderful. I'm wondering: What are some of everyones' favorite Bowie songs? I have a lot, including: Space Oddity, The man who Sold the world, Savior Machine,Quicksand, Life on Mars, Alladin Sane, Ziggy Stardust, Lady Stardust, Changes, Rock n Roll Suicide,Suffragette City, Moonage Daydream, Big Brother, 1984, Fame, Right, It's Gonna Be me, Who am I now, Golden Years, Wild as the wind, Station to station, Be my wife, Speed of life, Some are, Heroes, the instrumentals on "Heroes", Fantastic Voyage, Look Back in Anger, Ashes to Ashes, Scream Like a Baby, Kingdom Come, Under pressure, Let's Dance, The Cats, Loving the Alien, This is not America, As the World falls down, Magic Dance, Glass Spider, Bang Bang, Ian Fish UK Heir, Strangers when we meet, the budda of suburbia, Black Tie White noise, Jump they say, I know its gonna happen someday,Palace Athena,Outside, The Motel, Hallo Spaceboy, We Prick you, I'm deranged, Little Wonder, Seven Years in Tibet and I'm Afraid of Americans. Whew! and that's not it! I swear to god, he is one of the most amazing musicians ever. I know a guy who lives in NYC and works in a video corporation that David is now working at. He has talked to David a lot and says he's a nice man. I am jealous!David is awesome! I love you! Rachel

Maybe I'm wrong--I'm a changeable-natural-hair-colour person myself--some days redder, somedays blonder, sometimes brown.... I missed Rockline! I was at work--whoring myself for our capitalist system down at the mall, fun, fun! No pay-per-veiw either, cuz I am TV-less.... Aren't I deprived? Don't you feel sorry for me? I feel sorry for me!! "My my but time do fly, when it's in another pair of pants...." Gotta go! Seen Raygun #44 (this month) yet? He's all OVER the fuckin' thing! It's so great! Front, middle, back page.... 'Specially like the page of his personal Polaroid snaps, fm pictures of "Smithy" (Robert Smith of THE band, The Cure) and Sonic Youth to nice prosiac little things like "wife at needlepoint." Also, note how this cover is like a photo-negative of the last cover, for their 3rd anniversary issue. Marvy....

Well, folks, Earthling is now #2 in the Internet charts, so it just needs one last push to the top slot. Make sure you get your vote in this week. And any Bowie fans who are also Prince fans (and I know lots) and have also been voting for Emancipation might consider not voting for it this week. Reason being that it is Emancipation that is keeping Earthling off the top, so if you give both the same amount of points, you're not helping to close the gap. Not that I've anything against Prince, but he's been number 1 for ages. Next week is Bowie's turn!

HEY, all you Finnish wildlifers, have you seen the first price of the "Iltalehti"Bowie contest? You should send the answer to the "Iltalehti"magazine , oh the question..."How old is David Bowie? a)50 b)60 c)70?"That´s a hardone! Well, answering to the question is worthwhile because the first price is a DavidBowie Jacket, I guess it´s like the one in the"Earthling"cover. There´s also lots of other prices like posters, singleboxes and t-shirts.

Y'know when we were chatting last Saturday, and I told you that "Velvet Goldmine" reminds me of something...but I couldn't remember what...I remember...the...laughing & stuff at the end of Velvet Goldmine reminds me of the people in the masks laughing at Sarah in Labyrinth...when she dances *green* with Jareth...:)...CHRISTIE---}ummm....I can't stay at Aristosoft now...maybe later, okee?? :)

FINALLY,someone mentions Hunky Dory- I was beginning to think I was the only one who loved it. Well, I do, although my favourite song is Oh, You Pretty Things( reminds me of Bowiefans in the '70's for some reason)- just a thought. BowieManiac, come back!!!I need someone wonderfully obsessed to talk to! ( And of course everyone is invited- we don't want Major Tom alone up there, now do we??)

About this thing I said about Loving The Alien... I like that song... but they played Look Back In Anger, then the only other "classic" they played was Loving The Alien... I was hoping David wouldn't allow him to play that song and force that Ricky guy to play Beauty And The Beast or something... but that was wishful thinking on my part... sorry.

Hmmm, I didn't know Flea was a genderbender- that's odd. Becky, if you're still about, don't feel bad about not taping it all(see a few entries down for my excuse), but I didn't mind too much that they played Loving the Alien- was someone expecting The Laughing Gnome?:)

Bowie quiz of the day: What do DB, Dennis Rodman, Prince, and the guys in the Red Hot Chilli Peppers have in common? Gender bending. This is according to an article in a teen mag insert in this morning's paper. They have pictures of all of them and have an artcile commenting on the new? trend of guys wearing skirts, nail polish, etc. The quote under David's pic is "the ever-androgenous David Bowie". Just thought it was amusing...

I also asked myself why the hell the DJ played loving the alien... but anyway, can anyone fill me in on what happened after they played 7 yrs. in Tibet... I fell asleep... it was 12:45am or so... what I did hear was interesting and funny at times... ahhh... I love listening to David talk, sing, whatever...

One just has to look at David's early pictures to know that he's blonde. Dick Cavett asked him what color his hair was in that famous 1974 interview. "I'm a blonde", he said. In fact, it looked as though Dick was having a hard time getting David to say anything slightly discernible. Interviewing David in those days must have been a tough job. Now I know why the interviews he'd give back then were so lacking in actual information.

the rosie show was a truly more impressive than i expected. i just about died when, expecting another performance of 'little wonder', David said he was doing the newly released '7 years in tibet', the best song He has released in a long time. incredibly, i missed 'rockline'. yes, i deserve to be killed. i can only imagine..........what was the big occasion yesterday..? rosie, then 'Labyrinth' on the disney channel, and then rockline...?

Rosie show was good! If short.... Just checking over the last few days of postings and I have things to say.... Mlle. Foo, I disagree with you--Isn't Dave biologically a brunette? Though I must admit he's quite "naturally" a blond, even a redhead.... Surely David isn't giving up the ORIGINAL Alexander McQueen frock coat to some MTV contest?! What!?!? Oh, and by the way, I have to admit that p-simon psuedo gets my prize for best new moniker.... I've been spending two weeks trying to find a copy of Crash Course for the Ravers-- no one has it, and the one nice used-record-shop girl who'd heard of it needs to know what record company it's from, so she can order it.... Gonna go dig in the archives, now, n' find out. Night, all!

Hallo everyone, Saturn is sure wonderful on the surface, the aliens say HI!. But anyways, I'm really excited about Rockline tonight, I get it at 9:30 tonight on CJ92! And a live version of Seven Years In Tibet on Rosie! What a day! A double treat of the Thin White God! And as for Iman, she's great and everything, but Angie is a lot more fun, or was, when she was the man and David was the woman. The genders are too specific now. And its the 90's, when is David gonna pull another Boys Keep Swinging drag show! HEHEHE. Ah, I'm just babbling... gecko, this kiss is for you. And Spaceboys Bowie album of the day: OUTSIDE. why? Well because it blew me away the first time I heard it and forced everyone around me to love it or die! And oh yeah, it STILL blows me away. The Motel is pure genious! And so is the rest of the album. But hey, you already knew that!. Bye Bye Love From The Sonic Punter: Spaceboy!
