David has been alluding to returning to his narrative style song-writing for a while now. Straight prose that shows his mental agility--the likes of which we haven't seen in awhile? I'm talking such classics as Cygnet Committee, Width of a Circle, Life on Mars, Five Years, Watch that Man, We are the dead, Young Americans. Even songs like Joe the Lion, Scream like a baby, Repetition, Station to Station, Teenage Wildlife manifest real prose writing compared to the slice and dice style of his recent work on BTWN, Buddha, Outside, Earthling. Even Glass Spider, Shining Star, Tumble and Twirl, Loving the Alien, Crack City, Bus Stop, Shopping for Girls, and Something in the Air allude to a more narrative impulse than BOS, BTWN, Earthling and Outside. Those albums are brilliant but lack the "prose intelligence" that David Bowie is quite capable of. Long, intricate, and provoking epic song-writing would actually be a change of pace for DB! Tony Visconti may help draw out of DB's music & prose the sleeping genius!

Hi all! I was visiting Tony Visconti's web site recently and could not help but ruminate on the long and tumultous relationship that he and David have had over the many years. The ongoing realization that some of David's best work has been conjured under the auspices of this italian miracle worker...well what can I say? I am speechless. My anticipation level is rising and I have complete confidence in this dynamic duo. The next Visconti/Bowie project would invoke a double whammy of genius and prove to the world of the 21st century that David Bowie "still leaves a mark" on us! PS: I hope they release (at least as an import) the Beck-treated version of Seven here in the good old US of A.

Does anyone know if there is a place that sells or makes those tee-shirts with Bowie logos from the past? Any place in NYC? So many celebrities have been sporting them lately on television. I am jealous. I am guessing that the shirts were specially made for them. I would love to wear one to work and irritate some people.

Dear Kaliman, don't you recall the moondust that was thrown into David's eyes at the GQ Awards that nearly blinded poor Mr. B??? And on TV as well! I'm not sure that's a safe alternative, especially in your hands :-). Better stick to dreaming about these things, more apropos of the pensive mood Bowie has been in these days. BTW, for those of you who were not privileged to be present and further apropos of the men in skirts discussion, dear Kaliman wore his kilt to said GQ Awards, to the great pleasure of all his friends and acquaintances :-)!!

Evan, what about simply adding the TM section to the "Official studio albums" page, but underneath the rest of his albums?
Though I believe TM is an entity in itself, it's still a Bowie-constructed project, rather than a loose collaboration where he lends a song/his voice/whatever.

Hey Evan, I don't know if the TM albums should be included in the official list, but the first TM album seems to get re-released a great deal when the rest of the lot of DB albums do - in every record store I've seen, TM has always been under DB.
And the new chat channel - not bad, but now I can't be Alys, because that nick is already taken on DalNet **sob!!**... so look for me under Alysbowie for now!

    Hi CybrTrky
We do have the Tin Machine albums - just not under the list of "official Bowie studio albums". We were just having this discussion on Conversation Piece - namely, whether the Tin Machine albums should be included in studio albums, or whether they should be kept in the Collaborations section where they are now. I think the overall consensus is that although Bowie at the time liked to say "Tin Machine" was an entirely new entity - these days, most see it as just another Bowie album. So, I'm considering switching these into the official Bowie list.
    What do others think?

You fail to mention the three Tin Machine albums. Other than that your sight is one of the better ones I've seen next to Bowie's own. i myself have all of his albums now, not all origianl releases scince I wasn't born yet.

My guess is that Livingstone was one of the WH few who was low-level enough to be commandeered to give a tour (probably a nominal Bowie fan anyway) but high-level enough to have clearance to hold a regular access pass (no SS checks) to the Oval Office. Bowie has an odd knack for turning up in unusual places with unusual people, but I've always thought Bowie's most peculiar political pas de deux was the 'non-meeting' meeting that almost occured between Bowie and then Speaker of the House Tip O'Neill.

Congrats Jeaj on the Scottish win. As my t-shirt says "I support New Zealand and any team playing against the Poms" :-)

Margot - no, that actually is the real Craig Livingstone - centre of the complete Filegate scandal. That's the strange thing about that story - at least the first half of it is genuine as far as I know - I called JudicialWatch.org and they confirmed that it's Bowie and band in the picture with Livingstone; it's only the second part which is the April Fools' :-) Perhaps Bowie knew Livingstone from his ex-bouncer days.

I would just like to say that I have loved David Bowie for a long time. He has been an inspiration to me, mainly his older stuff like Hunky Dory and Aladdin Sane. I would like anyone who sees this to visit my band's homepage, Inferior Machine 13... you probably won't like us but we've got a unique thing going on.

Lilith - ignore them all - Scotland is THE place to live ! :-) ALYS - you never saw enough of the country to compare properly but are you seriously saying that of all the places you've been to in Europe Scotland is last ???? *hmpf* We have lochs and mountains, losts and lots of sheep (if your that way inclined), and of course - we are the home of whisky ! and sometimes it EVEN doesn't rain !!! Plus - if you're Scottish, you get to slag off the English and everyone just accepts it cause you're Scots :-) LOL !

4-1-2000 came here looking for blessings for a baby. david bowie starred in a movie called the man who fell to earth. i saw that movie at the seventh street theatre with jack rankin in 1977. in 1977 my adopted son was born and in 2000 my adopted grandson was born. maybe we will become fans of david bowie. thanks for letting us have our say. best wishes. jca.

Not too bad this year Evan... though I think the Bowie IPO was funnier *grin* However, most of this whitehouse stuff really is over my head! :)
Lilith, if you ever win the lottery, could you finance a plane ticket to Norway for me...and maybe speak to people in the immigration dept. so I could get a residence permit?? ;-)
