Dearest Teenage Wildlife Visitors, I have had and will again have the great pleasure of interviewing Angie Bowie for a screenplay that I am writing about the life of David Bowie, entitled "...And Ziggy Played Guitar..." While one meeting has already proceeded, more are to follow in the ensuing months until the screenplay's completion. A great deal of source material for the screenplay is to be complemented with retold firsthand accounts, which include those of Calvin Mark Lee, Holly Woodlawn, Angie and more. While I have a great deal to cover from the mid-1960's until the early 1990's, the concentration will focus on the entire 1970's and pockets of career highs, personal events etc. in periods onward. I am putting it out there for Teenage Wildlifers to ask any pertinent questions that have otherwise escaped the more substantial biographies on Bowie. In turn, I will ask the people who were there. Ultimately, I hope to ask the man himself. We'll see soon enough. Truly, Stephen Wozniak stephenwozniak@hotmail.com LA, CA, USA All other questions, please contact SARA BENNETT AGENCY (talent and literary) in LA, CA at 323.965.9666

In my particular case, singing, whether spontaneous or intentional, has quite clearly NOT caused my tits to fall off :-) I refer you to my new "David Bowie in New York" picture page (http://ramsey.dca.net/bnbdb.htm) for photographic evidence. Just to warn you though, I did not take my camera to either of the shows, so there are no actual pictures of David Bowie there, just lots of crazy Bowie fans!!

What a show! The best way to describe the experience of attending the BBC special recording today is to say that the whole thing can be compared to a two-hour-15-minutes multi leval orgasm. Personally some of the highlights were ‘Always Crashing In The Same Car’, described by DB as relating a suicidal episode in Berlin, and the rapid succession of ‘Little Wonder’, ‘Hallo Spaceboy’ and ‘I’m Afraid of Americans’. On this last number, I can say that I felt completely as one with the music. The excellent acoustic of the small auditorium allowed the basses to reverberate through my body while my ears were transmitting crystal clear sound and vocals to my overloading brain. I can now say that I have know pure bliss. Bowie was in great form despite his illness now qualified as ‘half a bronchitis on top of the laryngitis’. He went though song after song like a trouper with the aid of lots of tissues (not what you think!) and an inhalator loaded with a eucalyptus-vaseline concoction. He was very talkative during numbers which added to the feel-good feeling of the show. The encore featured an instrumental ‘Jean Genie’ while DB tried to shake off a bad attack of tickling throat and the show ended with ‘Let’s Dance’. This show will be broadcasted on BBC1 in September, get the recorder ready! Ads PS: Evan, could you add a concert page for the above?

Kali: I didn't say it, Bowie did... "I hate to waste the energy of a show-honed band so I've asked one and all if they would like to make an album immediately we get back to New York. All are in agreement that they'd like that very much, so I've pulled together a selection of songs from a somewhat unusual reservoir and booked time in a studio. I still get really elated by the spontaneous event and cannot wait to sit in a claustrophobic space with seven other energetic people and sing till my tits drop off." Scared the crap outta me, I tell you. So be careful of any spontaneous singing you might do!

Ok, I'm just going to kick off about the TV coverage of David at glasto. I've just seen the set list and I have to say that the people who didn't/couldn't (Ie me) get to tickets to see him were prety poorly served. By my calculations there were only about 3/4's of an hour of live coverage of David, in about the three hour show. Luckily I know someone who has all the tapes so I can get her to record the ones I don't have so I can make up my own Glasto tape but I thik it was a bit unfair. Ok rant over. Does anyone know where i could get my hands on a copy of David's full set on video?

MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING--MOONDUST WILL COVER YOU--CONTAMINATE YOU...When will Bowie return to the Fantastic Death Abyss? Behind the Very Clean DB lurks the Contaminated One... And I have a feeling after he gets tired of wearing the pinks and yellows and blues, the trickster bitch will return in tatters...

Hello, I'm new here so I just wanted to post to let you know of my exsistance. My Bowie obsesion began when I was 7 years old, sitting in a friend's basement watching Labrynth. I can't tell you how much that even changed my life but I can safely say it gave birth for my love of men in make up with long hair!! I am into Bowie's music but I have to say that I've been more influenced by his likes, ie. kabuki, Noh, mime. I know he's fallen out with Lindsey kemp but his conection with him lead me to do research into LK and Julian Beck and The Living theatre. (Though that was more Jim Morison, but they apeared on a "Dancing in the street" 'together' so there is a conection! LOL) anyway, I've babbled on enoough but I have to say I still think Bowie's the best looking star around and I'm still a teenager myself!! (17, jus in case anybody was wondering!)

i'm really surprised no one has mentioned the fact that dennis davis came out to play on wild is the wind and let's dance (maybe more...i couldn't see that side of the stage too well so i could block out holly and emm). he sounded great!! what a surprise that was. as for the shows, i think i preferred monday to friday (i was closer and i think it made a difference) but perhaps it was because i had the forsight to take my cell phone in with me and called my mom so she could hear the show too. it was almost like seeing it with her and we haven't been to a show together since 90. thanks for sharing it with me ilsa! i only wish you could have been there in person. as for the aftershow festivities, i have to say that every time i go to a show now...i meet the BEST people! gosh...where were all of you when i was growing up and being tortured for being into bowie??? :-) as with those below me...i LOVED seeing all my old friends and meeting so many new ones. it was especially nice to meet those who i have chatted with online for eons. i hope everyone had the best time (i know eriwilde did) and i hope we all get to meet again REALLY soon.

I just want to say that every time I go to a Bowie-related event, I meet more and more fabulous people! Dear Alys, my first online friend ever, what a pleasure to meet you in person. Hope you had the grandest time!! Great to see all the "old" pals too. What a fabulous experience. I think overall I preferred Friday, even though I missed the first 4 songs (damn Lincoln Tunnel!!). But the last 6 songs absolutely blew me away, what an encore!! OK, ok, so he shouldn't have blown his voice, but truly, he just kept sounding better as the night went on, so how was he to know. Monday was really great too, only a few small signs of the vocal problem, not quite hitting the high notes (actually he did OK on Life on Mars, it was much more noticeable on This is Not America), not holding notes as long and such. Doing a nearly instrumental version of Jean Genie :-)!! Also sorry we missed the after-party Monday, but had to come back to reality, sigh! Well, we had a wonderful weekend meeting and partying with the best people in the world. Congrats to dear EriWilde, she was so cute on stage :-)!! P.S: Kali, glad you made it home OK!!

Here is a personal message posted on Bowienet from David as to why the show was cancelled: FIRSTLY, I CANNOT TELL YOU GUYS HOW BAD I FEEL ABOUT SAT. YOU KNOW THAT I DO NOT CANCEL SHOWS LIGHTLY and I just hope you know that it was absolutely necessary !! Yesterday was a nightmare ! I woke up with NOTHING in my throat. Not a grunt or squeek. Pretty much all day till evening. Then a small murmer came back in. This has NEVER happened to me before !!! Ever !! On the other hand, I've never done such a LONG FIRST NIGHT SHOW. Well, you live and learn. Woke this morning to a passable croak which is sounding more like a real voice as the morning awakens. In short, if I take doctors orders and gargle with all the stuff:- TOMORROW LOOKS GOOD !! There was also info posted regarding refunds: For ticket refunds, return the stub intact to the location where you purchased it. Ticket Master will refund all Ticket Master purchases. If you ordered by phone, refunds should be called in. If you purchased from an outlet, please go to the outlet for a refund. All BowieNet members will be refunded as they were charged. Taz

Does anyone know as to why the show last night was cancled? I'm 15 and have loved Bowie since I was 8 and this just crushed me. We travled all the way down there to see him and speant quite a bit of money just to find out he cancled. OTOH, there are two different listings in the new print TimeOut New York, and they are eager anticipatory raves. One of them even opens discussing how wonderful Bowienet is. Furthermore, the main Web page at www.timeout.com ignores all the jazz fest and Bruce concerts and the like and under NY highlights, you guessed it, noting: "Never mind the dodgy art works and curatorial aspirations, nor the pioneering techie pretensions of http://www.davidbowie.com or even the more than passable performance as Andy Warhol in that awful Basquiat movie. The Thin White Duke is back to doing what he does best. The 1990s were quiet, a decade in which his art world pursuits captured more attention than his music, but now the man who thrilled you with everything from 'Starman' and 'Rebel Rebel' to 'Young Americans' and 'China Girl' is back in NYC for a much anticipated encore."

Speaking of surprise appearances, DJ Jonathan Clarke on dino rock Q-104, after playing "Fame," just said that Carlos Alomar jumped up Monday night (I believe he said this past Monday, though he might have been referring to a recent Monday), and sang the song he co-wrote, with the classic rock jam band at Decade, on First Avenue between 61st and 62nd. You can see who plays on the Monday night jams here: www.decadeny.com Out-of-towners might have seen the place on a "Sex in the City" episode.

In a week in which that old dog rock n' roll has told the cops to grow up and thereby landed on the front of the tabloids and on every local, network and cable news and chat show, radio and TV, up pop the Bowie concerts. Will this weekend continue in the same vein and challenge our passions and spirits for an intense 2 ½ to 3 hours? Or will we get 80 minutes of shtick and jokes about Mahir? Stay tuned. For the first time since Tin Machine IMHO, I think there is something at stake, and I'm not talking about Ultrastar's future. Incentive: besides being factually inaccurate, the dismissive evaluation of this weekend's shows in the new Village Voice–I mean, they didn't even read their own paper–is colossally embarrassing. And I like Bowienet. Here's hoping that Bowie is up to the challenge of putting out challenges to us, as he has done better than anyone if inconsistently, over the past 30 years.

According to Reeves Gabrels' testimony in David Buckley's paperback update of "Strange Fascination", Bowie's version of "Trying To Get Into Heaven" was one of two new tracks recorded for inclusion on the aborted "Earthling Live" album, mixed by Mark Plati, which transmogrified into the LiveAndWell.com release (the other was a track called "Funhouse").

hi Curious
Trying to Get To Heaven is supposedly an outtake from Bowie's studio sessions, possibly during or before the 'hours...' sessions. The song is Bob Dylan's from his Time Out of Mind album. Bowie's version was never officially released, but it was leaked (reportedly by Virgin execs) to a Spanish radio station which played it on the air during Bowie's promo tour there last year. Here's a link to the page with the lyrics

First let me say this site is great! I love it. Now, a question-I recently came across a song at Napster by DB called "Trying To Get To Heaven" but I don't recognize it at all. Can anyone tell me what this song is? Perhaps an additional track from a CD single? I like the song and would like to find it on CD, especially since the Napster version is sucky. Thanks!

So the DJ's are saying then, Dara, that eating fried banana and peanut butter sammies, taking more pills in a day than birth control clinic gives out in a month and having a strange obsession with underage teenage girls in white cotton undies isn't strange? ;) I can only cringe in fright with what DB had to do in order to qualify then. hehehehe. BTW, if you ever get the chance, see "Elivs and Me." It's a miniseries about Elvis and Priscilla (written by Priscilla, as you might have guessed from the grammar used in the title...), and it is one hell of a funny way to spend four hours of your life. Ask Patti, I'll bet she's seen it. Hell, she prolly has a copy she could loan you. ;)

Inane DJ chatter from one of Dublin's radio stations this morning:
DJ1: Who is it that was rumoured to be headlining Slane this year?
DJ2: Elvis.
DJI: No, something bigger than Elvis. And strange.
DJ2: Oh yeah, David Bowie it was.
DJ1: He's not playing Slane this year though, he's headlining Glastonbury.
