Not that much in main menu this morning on TW site Never mind so nice to find you again fellow fans of David Bowie : Happy Birthday to the fans born a day like this one, end of January, time to hope for Springtime and New Life. Listened yesterday to Christiane F. film video and cried for these young peole in Germany so lost sad and serious but so full of a kind of paradise sung by David and Heroes, Waiting so long, Warszawa. I wonder where the actress is to-day and would like to send to her a e-mail and anyway, I send to her my love and I admire her doll's face, her fairy body with high shoes and I think this film is like going from Germany of Fauvism and Expressionism style of art and I think David Bowie is marvellous in it with his music of liberty and waiting for fresh air.

Nite, Gilberto is at Irving Plaza in a show of her own the following Thursday, 2/28. Looking forward to see what all the accolades are about at Tibet ... but that's not the main reason I'm going. :-) With two discs, you're gonna get some stuff that is not up to snuff, or even annoying, and IMHO Bon Jovi's histrionics (not to mention bad singing) were out of place and looked pretty silly following Bowie. But the classic rock crowd clearly loved it. I think my fave besides the obvious, because it was so unexpected (at least to me), was the Goo Goo Dolls' cover of Tom Petty. Poor McCartney, however. And it looks like he's gonna do it again on Sunday.

Wow, David Bowie finally in a performance in 5.1 on a DVD. Long, long overdue, and not nearly enough. But the Concert for New York lead-off is tremendous, very well done, a really gutty performance. Essential. And the rest of the two-disc package ain't bad either.

I must categorically deny reports that Osama Bin Laden has been hiding in our library. I agree that two shadowy figures have been spotted reading our "make a fortune repairing typewriters" manuals, for long periods of time, but we believe them to be our resident pest Nevada Kerr and mentor David Bowie. Of course we cannot be sure as we now make all female members of the library wear a burka so that they cause no animal stirrings in our filthy male members.Obviously wearing such a garment by David Bowie gives him anonymity and enables him to browse our library in comfort. Its not for me to say that it also enables him to transgress our no smoking policy, as sometimes i have seen vast plumes of smoke rising from the grill of his burka while in deep conversation with Nevada.

It's surely not quiet on the newswires today with the Mariah Carey buyout story. Almost regardless of the Virgin circumstances in Bowie's case, he is now being referred to as the prototypical example of the costly, fading rock star who got dumped. Maybe you really can't rewrite history after all.....

There was a small article in the local paper on Iman today (a bit surprising, as I didn't think the local paper ever carried much of interest!) ... talking about her book I Am Iman. The article unfortunately talked more about her modelling career and only had a short sentence about DB, and wee Alex. But, it was interesting.

What a shame ! In a forum, i saw David Bowie had caught a bad flue and cold in Florida : poor he ! He smokes too much ! Happily, his supermodel wife Iman Bowie and his prettiest daughter Zara have not been ill too ! what a bad memory to remind ! I recently dreamt of Iggy Pop fucking with me : satisfying but strange experience in red and black colours ! I also dreamt of a little coffee shop belonging to David Bowie near seaside, in the sunshine and the sunset : an old lad took the messages for our dearest David Bowie... I know, life is difficult to understand and the night-dreams still more difficult to understand : but anyhow, we follow the god's Will and sometimes I also follow the David Bowie's style and will

Just saw this on Sky News - you probably all knew already but I'venot been around much lately ! Gland Control To Major Tongue David Bowie has been in hospital after suffering breathing problems while on holiday. The 55-year-old rock star was on a break in Palm Beach, Florida, when he complained of a tight chest and himself checked into the Good Samaritan Hospital. There, he is reported to have undergone tests and six hours of treatment for a chest infection. Responded Bowie, who is a heavy smoker, had been struggling against flu in the weeks leading up to the health scare. Medics say he "responded quickly" to treatment. Fluey A spokesman for the singer, whose hits include Ashes To Ashes, China Girl and Space Oddity, confirmed: "He's been suffering from flu recently which has gone to his chest. "He decided to get something for it so checked himself into hospital. He is fine now but still feeling a bit fluey." Last Updated: 14:33 UK, Tuesday January 15, 2002

For Katherine Mandu: Psalm 94 1: O LORD God, to whom vengeance belongeth; O God, to whom vengeance belongeth, shew thyself. 2: Lift up thyself, thou judge of the earth: render a reward to the proud. 3: LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph? 4: How long shall they utter and speak hard things? and all the workers of iniquity boast themselves? 5: They break in pieces thy people, O LORD, and afflict thine heritage. 6: They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless. 7: Yet they say, The LORD shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it. 8: Understand, ye brutish among the people: and ye fools, when will ye be wise? 9: He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? he that formed the eye, shall he not see? 10: He that chastiseth the heathen, shall not he correct? he that teacheth man knowledge, shall not he know? 11: The LORD knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity. 12: Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O LORD, and teachest him out of thy law; 13: That thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit be digged for the wicked. 14: For the LORD will not cast off his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance. 15: But judgment shall return unto righteousness: and all the upright in heart shall follow it. 16: Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? or who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity? 17: Unless the LORD had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence. 18: When I said, My foot slippeth; thy mercy, O LORD, held me up. 19: In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul. 20: Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee, which frameth mischief by a law? 21: They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood. 22: But the LORD is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge. 23: And he shall bring upon them their own iniquity, and shall cut them off in their own wickedness; yea, the LORD our God shall cut them off.

I was a little flustered and made a Lhasa Oopso. :-) By the way, all, did you hear that the CD that comes with the Iman book is really a CD-R? I know because I have one, and he didn't even try to fool us with a silver CD-R, just used a cheap blue one. Also...Bowie is selling Live&Well to anyone with the money at BowieNet. Not fair, eh? I can't imagine that nearly a billion dollars just isn't quite enough for some people! There! I've included the required Bowie content.

We understand that a subversive by the name of Nevada Kerr has been visiting your guest book.He is well known to us in the library and has caused considerable damage to our fiction dept by tearing out the last pages of our crime novels...He has a fixation that David Bowie is his real mother. This can be explained by the fact that he was born at a time when young girls were not supposed to have children out of wedlock. When anyone came to the door, the baby Nevada would be quickly hidden in a cupboard with her other precious posessions such as a rare copy of TMWSTW with Bowie in drag. He spent so many years in the cupboard looking at the picture that he would say 'Mama' every time Bowie was on tv.He became confused that Bowie was not capable of feeding him like other mothers could, and that his real mother had taken in a butch truck driver called Hermione (known as 'Hammy' to her friends). His confusion turned to anger as Bowie went thru several changes himself and offered him no pillar of stone he could secure himself to. He started by damaging our vinyl dept,he would put small scratches in our DB records so that they would jump at a certain point, one of the first records to suffer was our pre release demo copy of Changes .Which originally went "turn and face the strain..changes" Nevada's little prick made it come out as CH.CHcHAnges.We had to return the record before release to avoid bootlegging, Bowie played the record and said "wow what good idea" .Nevada was never recognised for this, and Bowie got all the credit, so now he haunts ciberspace bitter and twisted.

LOLs, I can't believe Spin left Young/Crazy Horse off that list, and I can't believe that CSNY are still drawing paying--$226 before TM charges, $46 for the nosebleeds--customers. They just added a third show at MSG on Tibet weekend. Bowie reciting a telephone book would be preferable, but that's just me. No more Tibet adds public yet. But Carnegie Hall just announced a biggie: REM at a GMHC benefit on 1/31, available online at www.carnegiehall.org. They can come back for Tibet. I won't mind. :-)

Spin has a new list of the top 50 greatest bands of all time, out 1/15. They played around with some solo artists so that they could make the list. Hence, Bowie and the Spiders appear at 36. So that you can begin arguing immediately, the top 10 is: 1. THE BEATLES; 2. RAMONES; 3. LED ZEPPELIN; 4. BOB MARLEY & THE WAILERS; 5. NIRVANA; 6. PARLIAMENT/FUNKADELIC; 7. THE CLASH; 8. PUBLIC ENEMY; 9. THE ROLLING STONES; 10. BEASTIE BOYS. You can see the press release with the criteria and full list here: http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/020109/nyw088_1.html

Reuters last hour did a report on an EMI statement saying it had not bought out Mariah Carey. The article says that Ken Berry's replacement Alain Levy "immediately set to work reviewing the recorded music business in a move to slash costs after a tough year in the music industry. Old-timer David Bowie has already been axed from the EMI roster." The story added at the end: "In a move to cut costs in a shrinking industry, a number of music groups have been offloading high-profile artists who do not sell enough albums to warrant costly contracts."

Navigating the Grammys site today has been nearly impossible due to traffic, but so as far as I can tell, the only nomination related to Bowie is, like Almost Famous last year, a compilation soundtrack nomination for the Moulin Rouge soundtrack. Tough category with "O Brother... ." When the Bottom Line guitar show was moved, Nile Rodgers was taken off the bill and is not scheduled to appear, presumably because of obligations related to the reuniting survivors of Chic, which I heard was a tour. Alomar is still appearing with Sharon Isben and Steve Vai. Not sure if Chic is a full-fledged tour, but Rogers and band will be at Irving Plaza here for two shows on 2/2. Happy B-day, late, KM.
