This has made me so happy I could cry to death. If you see someone smiling with his eyes closed tight, that's me.

Hmmm... just what I needed, another whole set of Bowie's back catalogue! Perhaps the second set will be in case the drought and heat (?) here melts the plastic on my other CDs? LOL

Below is culled from Bowienet's sole "news" item this morning, "reporting" Hunky Dory's UK chart return, but appearing beneath a UK Virgin Megastore ad. It actually appears to be taking issue with the pricing of the albums. Oh, wait, that's humor. My bad. I mistook it for cluelessly trashing the legacy. Yeah, sure, buy some more.--"Some of these extra sales are obviously down to the fact that Hunky Dory is currently available at a very silly price here, as is most of the Bowie EMI back catalogue. Virgin Megastores are running a promotion for fifteen of the albums (see press ad above) where all but three of the CDs are priced at £5:99, and Hunky Dory, Pin-Ups and Never Let Me Down are a mere £3:99! If you've not yet got the Bowie back catalogue, I doubt you'll pick these CDs up cheaper at any point in the near future. If you buy all fifteen at Virgin here in the UK, you can get the lot for just over a third of the RRP at £83:85...a total saving of £152! Personally, I reckon you're best to go get another set even if you already have 'em, what with all the flooding and stuff here in Europe at the moment, it would be prudent to keep a safety set in a high place, such as a bird box etc. Anyway, I digress... Further sales of Hunky Dory may be encouraged by Virgin's current Summer Sale TV advert, which features the album among lot's of other ludicrously low-priced classics, while 'Changes', Hunky Dory's famous opening track, plays in the background."

With the current attention on Elvis' death anniversary, I am again reminded that only Bowie has been able to match the the "King" in vocal range, tone, and quality, and actually, Bowie has a much more expressive voice as well. He should do an album of Elvis covers.

I know a lot of folks love Ozomotli, so here is the tip! They recently played a really small, initimate concert at The Expression Center for New Media in the Bay Area and it is online to see anytime at http://www.expression.edu. Just click on Immersion Theater and then Events. You need a relatively good connection and the Flash Player, but it is totally worth seeing. I love Ozo and if you do, too, you'll be stoked on this. It did turn out to be a Bowie show!! Who knew? Jones Beach last year was sold out, another show was added, the tapings of which found their way into a two-part HBO Reverb. But upgrades and two-for-ones really do say it all about this tour's success, which apparently was moved to a facility one-third the size of the original in Denver. (If anyone can confirm that. ...) We had noticed that Billboard, so far as we know, has not reported the attendance and gross of these shows. Still, Area2 this week soared on the Pollstar ratings guide, after being out of the top 10. Perhaps word of mouth as it proceeds across the country is helping. Anyway, the problem with attendance wasn't Bowie per se, it was the drawing power of a festival headed by a guy in whom interest has plummeted. See Jim Farber in Tuesday's Daily News. We'll never know whether a real Bowie show would have produced comparable attendance at Tweeter (about what I expected); PNC (way more than what I expected), and Jones Beach (hard to tell under the circumstances, but not even in the vicinity of a sellout). Ultimately, as great as the three performances I saw were, pre-packaged Bowie for 90 minutes, far less at Jones Beach, only sets the stage and the challenge, hopefully, for what will be real shows in a few weeks. I loved the fact that he's fielding setlist questions these days. Even he must know that these 12 meager shows are just a warm up. ;-)

Hay Rancell- I was wearing my Area 1 shirt the other day and realized that Area one (here in Maryland, anyway) played the MUCH smaller Columbia Marlyand Merriweather Pavillion. This year it was at Nissan which was much larger. It made no sense because I'm not sure whether or not it even sold out last time... All lawn people at Nissan were upgraded to pavillion- I did hear that. And you're right, a lot of the fans seemed confused but I have to say that Bowie held most of them right in his hand. Even moreso at Jones Beach. I mean TEENAGERS in front of us singing along with Cactus! It was pretty damn cool, even if I did feel like the over the hill pro wrestler passing the torch.

I saw the Area 2 tour in Chicago, and David was better than ever.(have seen him 5 times since 1987). Now he is ust giving a staight up performance that accentuates his wonderful voice, classic songs, and messmerizing stage style.I fretted that the crowd wasn't constantly screaming and acting fanatical, til I figured out that they were just like me--you become totally absorbed just watching him. I hope he knows that about his 21st century fans.

Dear David, Hats off for a great new album. "Sunday" and "Heathen (the Rays)" are two of the best things you've ever done and there are many other gems in between. I hope you are enjoying my Open Tuning Chord Book For Guitar that my journalist friend Michael Dwyer passed on to you in NYC a few months back. Maybe you'll find a song in there somewhere. And thanks for signing the "Survive" re-mix for me. Good luck with US tour and hope to see you in Sydney sometime. Cheers, Brendan

Heading to Mansfield later today. I am in Section 3, but will no doubt slip down to front. Hope to see the Boston area fans, part. Janet G. and Marge G. and the Philly dogs whom I've not seen in a few years. Have lost their contact info but I'm still cool and as handsome as I was then. Enjoy, PR
