Teenage Wildlife Guestbook March 2003

Thank you for visiting Teenage Wildlife. Here are some previous user's comments.

Despite the obvious endorsement Bowie has given Essexboy/100PCB, the news this weekend and today is the amazing Internet leaks of the amazing new Radiohead material. Hmm, that, or Outside extras about Leon and Ramona-- which is worthy of a news story? The Bowie live stuff, of course, has been absolutely amazing. Ditto the quality on the SM and early songs. Why isn't this stuff simply released by Bowienet? Why do we have to be taunted about the availability of these supposed gifts? Well, the cult of Outside, limited to these pages, indeed will live forever, though no amount of wishing will make it the 90s version of the Berlin trilogy, as these tracks prove, once again. Back in the real world, very few people have noticed--there are barely any posts in the discussion area--that AOL this week is featuring the ENTIRE remastered version of Ziggy. You can literally watch the whole movie. It's in the Broadband area, a brand new feature. But it doesn't appear that anyone is bothering with it because it is generating little discussion within AOL and so far as I can tell no discussion outside of AOL. I'm looking forward to getting the sound home and listening in 5.1, which should be pretty amazing. Let's face it, the original was very tough to get through, and sitting through it on AOL isn't exactly ideal. And speaking of tough to get through, Evan, this guestbook is in some major need of repair. ....

It's hard being the only Bowie fan that I know....most of the people I know haven't even heard China Girl or Let's dance it's very frustrating...they all like bands like the hives or christina aguilera....all alone and the only one with good taste in music.

Rufus's name is familiar because his dad is Loudon Wainwright III, a famous folkie. His mom is one of the McCarrigle sisters, singer songwriters, very talented. He often performs with the McCarrigles, as well as his sister, Martha Wainwright, who appears frequently in NYC. To bring it full circle, Martha is often part of the Loser's Lounge shows, and I seem to recall she sang one of the songs at the Bowie tribute couple of years back. She's done bills with Visconti too.

The Stations in ``Station to Station'' are likely the fourteen Stations of the Cross, a re-capitulation of the journey of Jesus on his crucifixition. Hence the sequence... ``Here are we One magical movement from Kether to Malkuth There are you You drive like a demon from station to station'' ...is contrasting a magician to a conventional (catholic faith) and the entirely different state of being that implies.

It just so happens that I have a Rufus Wainright song afterall. I have the Moulin Rouge soundtrack. Rufus sings a very beautiful song in French & English. I was not familiar with his music, but his name did sound familiar.I am so glad I went to the Tibet show. I will go back next year! Is it a coincidence? David & Rufus together on the Moulin soundtrack and at the Tibet concert!

Its bad enough that I keep getting spammed to death by these credit card debt offers. It seems like everywhere I turn I see ads for repair credit this and that. Now these companies are posting messages on your guest book to advertise their credit counseling services? Give me a break! Maybe some of us donít mind having bad credit and just want to use the Internet in peace. Post your junk elsewhere. none.

Rufus records shouldn't be hard to find, because he's on Dreamworks. He's pretty much a staple on WFUV these days. I enjoyed him much more two weeks ago than the prior time, which was when he opened up for Roxy Music two summers ago at the Theater at MSG. He was awful and whiny then, and a real turnoff. In particular, a review of that in NME was merciless, really hammering him. The reviewer was sitting right behind me and was pretty vocal in his distaste to the friend he came with. But Rufus by his own admission has had a lot of personal issues, apparently, since then, and it seems like he has come away with the focus where it should be, on the music.

Rancell, Thanks for the information. I better go to a big store like Virgin to find it. I doubt any local record stores will carry the album.

The first Rufus song was "Grey Gardens," from his last release, "Poses," which came out February 2002. Very nice stuff. That mass suite he followed it with IMHO was very impressive.

The Tibet House Benefit concert was spectacular. Of course, David was the best! Does anyone know the name of the first song that Rufus Wainright performed? I would like to buy the album that has that song.

I liked LtA I think a lot less than everyone else, but Heathen/Waterloo Sunset were as good as it gets. Unforgettable stuff. It was a great event. I'm glad the Philly people were there and I got to say hi. Sorry I couldn't really hang, I was kind of lucky I could go at all. Long sickee week. Yes, Bowie seems to be affecting Patti's health on a regular basis. What happened? At least you're back and typing.

Gotta be careful Patti! Even Bowie isn't an excuse to end up in hospital! ;)
But seriously, I hope you're feeling better. Wish I could have been there for the tibet show...!

The last question in an interview by Hits, published today, to Robert Fripp, who is playing in NYC this week, is about his current contacts with Bowie: "I spoke to him last year in the spring. He was the guest curator of the Meltdown Festival in London, which he wanted me to take part in. Logistically, I couldnít because of Crimson recording in Nashville at the same time. That was the last time I spoke to him, but I did get an e-mail around Christmas." Immmediately prior in the interview, Fripp said he will be working with Eno next week. Wasn't it Fripp's wife a couple of years ago that said that Fripp was coming to New York to record with Bowie?
