Starman wasn't really that strong a song, compared with other
chart-bound songs that summer (from such glam artists as Alice Cooper, Bolan,
Hawkwind, Gary Glitter), but the sight of Bowie and Ronson's
appearance on "Top Of The Pops", casually camp and as seductive as a hot
summer night, is burned indelibly into the minds of everyone who saw them.
An immediate hit, and the struggling was finally over. Over the next
few weeks, the build-up was phenomenal. Starman was still fresh,
but already David was a star.
