Bowie News for October 1996

October 26, 1996: Well, Bowie did as some had suggested and sang Fashion as the first of a two song set. Then, he went into a rocking version of Little Wonder from the Earthling album. You can see the a full replay of the awards (Bowie is the second the last segment, about 1:45 into the show) on VH-1 this weekend at 1 p.m. EST on Saturday, and 7 p.m. EST on Sunday.
You can also see and hear clips from the show on this page.

October 25, 1996: Fresh from the VH-1 interview, you can be one of the first to hear a sound clip of Little Wonder from the upcoming Earthling album.

October 24, 1996: During his interview on Fashion Hour: David Bowie, David confirmed that after Earthling, there would be two additional albums released in the following six months! He also said he would be involved in some stage work as well, and that there would be "lots of stuff" happening around the release of Earthling. You can read all about it in the VH-1 interview transcript.

October 23, 1996: Helen of Connecticut (Heleng@Uconnvm.Uconn.edu) is hereby acknowledged as the rightful rumour-mongerer responsible for the Pacific tour rumours. So there.

October 22, 1996: Bowie will be on a special two hour show on VH-1 called Fashion Hour: David Bowie, to be shown Thursday, October 24, 1996 - 12:00 p.m. PST. Synopsis is "Bowie discusses fashion, his career, his age and his wife, supermodel Iman".

October 21, 1996: Seems even the rock critics liked Bowie on Saturday night! Check out this San Francisco Chronicle review, or alternatively the San Francisco Examiner.

October 19, 1996: Well, here's a turn-up for the books... Just back from the Bridge Benefit Concert and Bowie played six songs, but look what six!

  1. Aladdin Sane
  2. The Jean Genie !!
  3. I Can't Read
  4. The Man Who Sold The World
  5. "Heroes" !!
  6. Let's Dance !!!
So does this mean Fashion is in the books for the VH1 concert awards? You can check out a longer report including my own opinions at the Bridge Benefit Concert page.

October 17, 1996: Tidbits here and there indicate that the song I'm Deranged will appear in the soundtrack of David Lynch's upcoming movie, Lost Highway.

October 16, 1996: Release dates for Earthling? According to information from the Bassman page, the European release dates are currently scheduled as:

Telling Lies: November 4, 1996
Earthling: January 20, 1997

October 13, 1996: Radio station Live-105 (actually 105.3FM) in the Bay Area will be playing a "preview" of the upcoming Bridge benefit concert today, Sunday 13 October at 10 p.m. PDT. Not exactly certain what this means, but since they've been playing Rebel Rebel and Fame as the promos, there's a high likelihood they don't have much clue of what he's really going to play. (Information from Live-105 promos)

October 13, 1996: Rumours still circulate about upcoming Bowie shows in England, and also a trip to the South Pacific. But so far, these all appear to be just speculation. (Information from Patti)

October 12, 1996: According to information from Bowie's publicist, Bowie's concert at Shoreline, Mountain View, California, Oct 19 and 20, will feature just himself, Reeves Gabrels and Gail-Ann Dorsey. So who's going to play drums?? (Information from Patti via the guestbook )

October 11, 1996: It's rumoured that Bowie will be singing two songs at the VH-1 Fashion Show Awards to be held 24 October, and broadcast 25 October. For non-US readers VH-1 is an music channel, sort of like MTV except actually with music :-) (Information once again from the imdomitable Patti and VH-1)

October 4, 1996: VH-1 will also be reshowing on October 23 Ziggy Stardust - The Motion Picture, the documentary of Ziggy's final concert at the Hammersmith Odeon. For all your new Bowie fans, this is a chance to see the original "glam-rocker" who shocked America.
