My first time in Quebec city,a very french city, and me with very little experience of the language. My first time at the opening night of a world tour, but more significantly a Bowie world tour.First impressions-great excitement wondering what the set list would be,and the full band i knew Belew was on lead, but who else....The opening strum of Space Oddity and the energy in the hall went through the roof. The projected images and sync between sound and vision was breathtaking.I remember thinking at one point David didn't seem to be in to it too much, almost going through the motions, introducing John i'm only dancing after Queen Bitch as "same shit, same period"or words to that effectAll in all an incredible experience, and then on to Montreal for the 2nd show of the tour. One personal opinion,i think David sold this tour short as far as the band was concerned,i think if David was serious about retiring these songs he should have paid them more respect.I believe he could have put a much better band together,if Ronno wasn't available Earl Slick would have sufficed. And the rest of the band were adequate not spectacular,as if David was just doing his duty,no more.A full band with sax and Mike Garson on keyboard, backing singers,a decent percussionist,i feel it could and should have been much better.Something akin to the "74 touring band.Apart from that we all know what an incredible performer David is and it was just a real pleasure to be there,in the hall with "the man".
