Bowie: 'Drugs addled my brain'

Rock star David Bowie has said his mind is "like Swiss cheese" after extensive drug use in the 1970s.

"I have unbelievable holes in my memory," the 52-year-old told the December issue of ZM magazine.

Bowie, who no longer uses drugs, said cocaine abuse left him with "emotional damage", although he now feels "extremely happy, even jolly".

But he admits that he still struggles to give up one vice - smoking.




Monroe bikini raises £15,000 at auction

An avocado string bikini worn by Marilyn Monroe in the 1961 movie, The Misfits, has sold for £15,000 at an auction in Beverly Hills.

Monroe's bikini stole the show at the movie memorabilia auction, outshining the sale of Henry Mankiewicz's Oscar for co-writing the Citizen Kane screenplay, which sold for £137,500.

In June, Michael Jackson paid $1.5m (£930,000) for the best picture Oscar awarded to Gone with the Wind.




Arnie is back with action blockbuster

The first Arnold Schwarzenegger film for two years has received its world premiere in Hollywood.

End Of Days features Schwarzenegger as an former police officer who battles it out with the Devil on the eve of the Millennium.

He said he deliberately chose an action-packed thriller to prove that he has recovered from heart surgery.

"I wanted to do a lot of stunts to show I'm full of energy," he said.




Willis set to top Hanks as $100m man

Bruce Willis is expected to top Tom Hanks as the star who has earned the most money in a year, says leading New York gossip columnist Liz Smith.

Willis, who is divorced from Demi Moore, is thought to have earned more than $100m (£62m) this year because of his deal which gave him 10% of the £500m (£312m) made by The Sixth Sense.

In addition, he was paid $20m (£12.5m) a film for three others he made during the year, beating the $70m (£44m) Hanks earned the year Forrest Gump came out.




Crooner Williams cancels London gigs

Veteran singer Andy Williams has cancelled shows in London after doctors found a node on his vocal chords.

The 70-year-old vocalist has been told not to sing for ten weeks.

Williams told Daily Variety that he may not need surgery.

"I'm told the operation sometimes affects the sound of your voice," he said.

"As long as I don't sound like Barbra Streisand, that wouldn't be too good coming out of a man's body."




Back to work for new mother Tea Leoni

Actress Tea Leoni is going back to work for the first time since she and her X-Files star husband, David Duchovny, had their baby daughter, Madeleine.

She is to play opposite Nicolas Cage in Family Man, about a wealthy bachelor who wakes up one day to find himself living the life he would have enjoyed had he married his college sweetheart.

The romantic comedy marks a change of pace for both Cage, who has just shot stunt-filled Gone in 60 Seconds, and Leoni, whose last film was Deep Impact.




South Park's lead woman commits suicide

Actress Mary Kay Bergman, the female voice of animated comedy South Park, has committed suicide, coroners in Los Angeles have said.

The 38-year-old, who voiced all but one of the female characters on the cult animation series, died from a shotgun blast to the head on 11 November.

She did not leave a suicide note.

Bergman, who was married to producer Dino Andrade, had also done voiceovers in animation films such as Beauty and the Beast and Hercules.




JonBenet murder prompts US mini-series

A mini series based on the unsolved murder of child beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey is being made for US television.

JonBenet was found beaten and strangled in the basement of her parents' home in Boulder, Colorado, on Boxing Day 1996. Her parents are suspected of involvement in the killing, but have not been charged.

Ann-Margret, star of 1960s hits like Viva Las Vegas and The Cincinnati Kid, will play JonBenet's grandmother.

Seven-year-old Dyanne Landoli will play JonBenet.
