Bowie trained early on in his career as a mime with Lindsay Kemp. When his early musical releases all failed to sell well, he thought that he may have to give up music and work instead on the stage. Fortunately for music lovers, he eventually caught on. But he put his stage training to good use both during his live concert performances and also in film acting.
In 1980, he took to a new level by taking on the part of John Merrick in the play The Elephant Man.
